The Wireless Service
1) What is Wireless Broadband
technology?
Wireless Broadband brings high-speed Internet into your home or
business using radio waves instead of a phone line or cable TV line.
NO PHONE LINES, NO SATELLITE OR CABLE TV LINES NEEDED!
NEOKNET's Wireless Broadband is "always on". There
is no need to dial-in.
2) How fast is it?
Our basic service level (512Kbps) is ten times the speed of dial-up.
At this time we curently have 2 plans. – all with the added benefit of never
having to "connect." NEOKNET’s wireless broadband
speeds compare favorably to DSL and cable speeds.
If you need faster speeds to the Internet or need to connect several
locations, custom packages are available - just ask.
3) What is your current coverage
area?
Check out the Coverage Area by clicking here. NEOKNET’s
first Wireless Point of Presence (“WPOP”) has been established
in central Mayes County.
In the near future we will be adding additional WPOPs. Our long-range
plan is to possibly expand our coverage throughout Northeast Oklahoma.
4) How secure is Wireless Broadband
Technology?
Wireless is as secure as the Internet itself. Because important
personal data like credit card numbers are usually encrypted when
you order something on the Internet, that same data will travel our
network encrypted. In addition, NEOKNET uses proprietary wireless
encryption on all of our radio links.
Our radios come with firewalls built in as well.
5) How does Wireless compare
to Cable and/or DSL?
Wireless Internet access is more affordable than most broadband
options. Especially when you consider that no additional phone lines
are necessary.
Cable is frequently oversubscribed, meaning that the cable company
doesn't use enough high-speed connections to the Internet backbone
for the number of users on their system which causes Internet access
to slow down.
DSL depends on existing telephone wire.
As with any service, the larger number of users on line at anytime,
the greater the likelihood the overall speed of service will diminish.

6) Is wireless reliable?
Yes. Our wireless network has been designed to provide reliable
wireless data connections to the areas we service. By design, weather
conditions DON’T affect our wireless data network.
7) Will cell phones or cordless
phones interfere with NEOKNET wireless service?
Cell phones and 900MHz cordless phones have no impact on NEOKNET
service because they operate in a different frequency range.
Any device such as a phone, or baby monitor that operates at 2.4GHz
may possibly cause interference, but not to the extent that you would
notice. Also, the NEOKNET antennas are mounted on the roof.
Other equipment that operates in the 2.4GHz range is generally used
in the home and has lower power.
8) Can weather affect a wireless
Internet signal?
Generally - No. The only time you could experience any type of minimal
signal loss would be during a very heavy rainstorm. Speed may decrease
slightly during torrential downpours of 6" per hour or more.
Luckily, this type of rain is very rare in our coverage area. Wireless
links are not affected by fog, smog, snow or non-torrential rain.
The type of system we use has successfully operated in rainy, tropical
areas with no significant degradation of service.
However, NEOKNET does depend on electrical service in order to work.
If severe weather leaves you without electricity, you will be unable
to connect to the Internet.
9) Do I need a clear line of
sight to a NEOKNET Wireless network antenna to receive service?
You do need what is called a "radio line of sight." Radio
line of sight differs slightly from visual line of sight. Our signal
can pass through various types of buildings and obstructions, (depending
on your distance from a NEOKNET network antenna), so you may
be able to get service even if you can't see the antenna.
10) Is Wireless the same as
"satellite" Internet?
No. Wireless uses ground-based antennas to transmit data to your
location.
Satellite systems have higher "latency" (the time it takes
data to travel between two points) since the data has to travel from
your location up to the satellite 22,300 miles over the equator and
back down to the Internet. This can make surfing seem sluggish and
video conferencing and gaming unbearably slow.

The Installation
11) What equipment will be
needed?
NEOKNET's CPE antenna is a Wireless
Broadband Subscriber Module only 11.75" square.
It is mounted on the roof, eves, or attached to a chimney. The antenna
has an embedded radio that converts the signal to regular Ethernet.
An outdoor Ethernet cable is then fed into the building to the "D-Mark".
From the "D-Mark" one computer or a LAN with multiple computers
can be connected.
12) Is there any wiring involved
with the wireless installation?
Yes. The wireless portion of the connection is from the NEOKNET
network antenna to the roof of your building or home. An outdoor Ethernet
cable runs from the antenna on your roof into the building to the
"Demark". From the "D-Mark" one computer or a
LAN with multiple computers can be connected.
13) How long will it take
to install?
Once a site survey is completed to verify your site for wireless,
the installation is usually completed within 5-10 working days. The
actual on-site installation time can vary from 1 to 4 hours depending
on the circumstances.

Use of the Service
17) Does it matter which web
browser I use?
Any standard browser like Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet
Explorer will work with our system. Since the wireless network relies
on the same protocol as the Internet, TCP/IP, any program designed
for use on the Internet can be used on the NEOKNET network.
18) Can I connect more than
one computer to my wireless service?
Yes. NEOKNET brings the service into the "D-Mark"
point and from there you may connect your LAN connection to several
computers. The NEOKNET service cannot, however, be resold.
Please note - The connection sharing is limited to one organization
at one location.
19) Do I have to change my
current Internet Service Provider (ISP) and email address?
Yes. However, an email account is included with a standard NEOKNET
wireless account. If you want to keep your old email address, you
can either configure your email client to continue to use your old
address, or you can have your current ISP forward all your mail from
your old address to your new one. There will probably be an additional
fee from your current ISP for this service.
20) Is the Internet access
unlimited?
Yes, it is unlimited access. In addition, wireless Internet is a
full-time always on connection; your computer is connected 24 hours
a day, 7 days a week.
